The Troy Glaus for Chipper Jones trade has been accepted. I am happy. I like to have a couple of hometown players on my team. Someone I can be watched on a regular basis. I think Glaus will have a nice year. No complaints so far about his surgery. Plus, he had RK surgery done in the off-season. He says he's never seen the ball so well.

He's going to like hitting in the National League and especially in the BOB.
Has anyone seen this happen?

It's been raining a ton here this winter. Nothing like the rain in LA. But plenty for the majestic, beautiful, timeless Sonoran desert. Two years ago we didn't get three inches of rain for the entire year. We've doubled that in the last two months. Golfwise, the last three weekends have been washouts.

Yesterday dawned sunny, if a bit musty from all the rain. A steady breeze blew renegade nimbus clouds from left to right on your radio dial all day long. It was a perfect day to play, and players came to play. We teed off at 8:37 and waited for the groups ahead for most of the front nine. Everyone was happy to be playing and the normal grumbling about slow play was spotty.
The condition were soggy but not atrocious. Balls picked up mud and needed a good scrubbing after each hole. The trash cans on our favorite muni, which sit next to he ball washers, always have a healthy stash of empty beer cans, empy half pints, and bannana peels.

The guys ahead of us were decent, although a couple of them could have moved up a tee box. One dude was having more trouble than the others. He had a hitch in his backswing that brought his swing too far over the top and sent his tee balls hard left. Played cleared and we didn't share a tee box with our friends until the 17th, a nifty 200-yard par 3. 17 plays downhill to a hidden green.

Our friend the snapper walks up to to the tee. Plants his tee into the ground. Sets his ball on the tee. Knocks his ball off his tee. Mumbles a few choice explatives. Squats, puts hit ball back on the tee. Stands up quickly and staggers away from his ball. Mumbles a few more explatives. Tosses his cigar to the ground, which by the way smells like a turd rolled in a leaf, takes a flask out his pocket and takes a good long pull. "Cough syrup," he says to no one and everyone. He takes dead aim. Swings and hits a beautiful shot straight toward the flag.

His partners cheered the shot. It was his shot of the day. Since you couldn't see the green, it was impossible to tell where the ball ended its journey. He accepted everyone's cheers graciously, and bent over to pick up his tee and his cigar.

Still smiling and accepting congrats, his put his lit cigar in his pocket and got his tee near his mouth when he looked sticken, said "Oh shit," and pulled his lit cigar from his pocket.

We roared.

I have two Yahoo! fantasy baseball teams this year. Both chosen randomly by the server and both place in league via the same process.

Team 1 is the Choppers.
Position Players
Catcher: Mike Piazza
1st Base: Richie Sexon
2nd Base: Tony Womack
SS: Michael Young
3rd Base: A Rod
OF: Miguel Cabrera, Hideki Matsui, and Carlos Lee
Util: Mike Sweeney
Bench Austin Kearns, Mark Teixeira, Milton Bradley

Excellent power. Good batting average. Good team speed. Look for Austin Kearns to be in the starting line-up by opening day. Dude can play.

Pitching Staff
Starters: Roger Clemens, Brad Radke, Jeff Weaver, Mike Hampton, Kenny Rogers, John Lackey
Relievers: Francisco Cordero, Armando Benetiz, Greg Aquino.

Not bad, right. Plenty of starting firepower. Closers may be in question. Who knows about Benetiz? Aquino did well last year. Cordero? Will Texas be as good as last year?

Picked up Hampton as a free agent. Dropped some kind named Ayala who plays for Washington. Don't know much about him. Even if he's decent, it's tough to put up numbers for the Expos/Nats.

The Diamondhacks
Postion Players
Catcher: Javy Lopex
1st Base: Albert Pujols
2nd Base: Tony Womack
SS: Orlando Cabrera
3rd Base: Chipper Jones
Outfield: Miguel Cabrera, Juan Pierre, Magio Ordonez
Utility: Lew Ford
Bench: Austin Kearns, Mike Sweeney, Derek Lee

I am not worried here. Should have plenty of power and speed. Picked up Austin Kearns on waivers.

Pitchers
Starters: Mark Mulder, Chris Carpenter, C.C. Sabbathia, Jeff Weaver, Shawn Estes, Adam Eaton, Tim Wakefield
Relievers: Takatsu, Rincon.

I have a waiver request to pick up Uggie Urbina. I am very concerned about my relievers. I had a fellow leaguer reject a trade offer of Tim Wakefield for Greg Aquino. Another guy wanted to trade me Chipper Jones for Jeff Bagwell. I don't need another 1B; I gave him a counter offer of Chipper Jones for Troy Glaus. Have not heard from the dude.

Let's play ball!

OK. I've decided that I am a baseball blogger. Most post will chronicle baseball-related thoughts including the AZ Diamondbacks and my free Yahoo! fantasy teams. Out.
